What Kayaks Should You Choose - Inflatable or Rigid |

So now that you have decided to purchase a fishing kayak, you are faced with the daunting task of deciding which model is right for you. Our goal is to make that decision as easy as possible for you, by providing lots of interesting facts to consider in making your choice of which fishing kayak is best for you. The vast majority of kayaks sold today are used for touring and white water adventures. Ironically, many of the things you may have been told to look for as a desirable feature in a touring kayak might actually work against you in a FISHING KAYAK. Keep this in mind as you search for your “ultimate dream kayak”: No single kayak does everything well. A kayak that is long enough for the ocean, is too long for a small stream. A fast kayak that tracks well, will not turn well, etc. In search of your ultimate kayak you need to first decide where and in what conditions you will be doing most of your kayak fishing. Don’t buy a kayak that is designed for smooth calm inland water if you are going out into the ocean. And if you are going to have to travel down a good length of white water rivers to get to a calm stretch of river for fishing, your kayak needs to be designed for the white water first, and the fishing second. You will find that your ideal fishing kayak will turn out to be a compromise of many features. For instance, it will be long enough for your purposes, rigid and stout enough to give you that solid feeling, yet light enough for you to load and unload it from your vehicle without help. And most importantly, no matter which model you finally decide on, all of our fishing kayaks are made by quality manufacturers with plenty of experience, and they hold their value. What To Select Inflatable vs Rigid KayaksOne of the first things to decide before purchasing a fishing kayak is whether you want an inflatable boat or kayak, or a rigid model. There are of course, advantages and disadvantages to each. Rigid kayaks may at first seem to be the only logical choice. They are proven to be sea worthy. There are lots of accessories available that can be added after the sale by simply drilling a mounting hole and attaching the accessory. (it’s NOT suggested to drill holes in an inflatable!) However, many avid fishermen have recently discovered a fishing secret that has totally changed and enhanced their enjoyment of fishing. The single item that made all of the difference? An inflatable fishing kayak or inflatable boat. At first, many were skeptical about owning an inflatable water craft. But then they discovered the one thing that makes this the most valuable item they could have in their arsenal of fishing gear... portability. An inflatable fishing kayak can be folded into a carrying pack and easily backpacked to remote fishing areas that no other boat can be taken to. Most inflatable's can be purchased with a carrying pack that can either be used as a back pack, or as a shoulder bag, and taking them to remote fishing spots is no more trouble than taking along an extra tackle box. How many times have you hiked into a favorite "secret spot" and thought, "Man o man, I wish I could get a boat in here"? An inflatable can grant that wish for you. Considerably lighter per foot than a rigid kayak, or a canoe, you can find yourself in the water, and closer to the "big fish" in extremely remote areas with a minimum amount of effort! And the lighter weight not only makes a difference when carrying the kayak to a remote fishing area, it also makes a difference in just getting it out of your vehicle and to the waters edge. The small package it can be packed into is about the same size as a cooler, so not only is taking it to the water in your car quite easy, but it also makes your winter storage a snap. No need for a trailer, garage space, or a storage building, and no need for an outdoor cradle of some sort. Another advantage we are hearing about now is that families who like to pull a camper behind them have never been able to also take along their boat and trailer. So when out on an extended camping trip, they had no way to enjoy their water sports as well. Now they have found that they can take along an inflatable boat or inflatable kayak which easily packs inside the camper. Next Post: Benefits of Elliptical Machine
